Drax Power Station Go Digital

SFL Mobile Radio have this year installed a Motorola digital radio system into Drax Power Station, based in North Yorkshire.

Initially, 85 Motorola DP3400 mobile radio units were installed on a short-term hire basis into our longstanding customer at Drax Power Station to operate during the annual outage of 2010.

Following a couple of weeks of successful usage, various other divisions on the site of Europe’s largest coal burning enquired about the new digital radio system and now SFL manage over 200 two way radio devices stretching across the 500 acre site.

Neil Bethell (A SFL Field Engineer) commented: “For many years we have been relocating the repeater mast in order to satisfy the customer’s changing coverage requirements. However, these new digitally enhanced 2 way radios have increased coverage whilst improving audio quality throughout the boiler house of the site. The evidence is clear due to the large amount of other divisions on site migrating from analogue to digital.”
