Portable 2 Way Radios

What is a portable 2 way radio?

Ideal for construction projects, shop watch schemes, warehousing, carnivals, sporting events and any other requirement of a portable nature for a mobile workforce. When using digital technology via SFL equipment, you will naturally receive a 2 way radio which offers crisp audio clarity, extended digital coverage along with maximum battery life. In addition, our modern fleet of portables can offer such features as:

GPS
It is important to know the location of every organisation’s greatest asset – it’s workforce! Many digital 2 way radios now have the option of an integrated GPS module and, therefore, transmit the position of that radio to strategically located software; either to a Command and Control Centre or a Supervisors tablet depending upon the Software chosen.

The GPS will operate when the 2 way radio is within its geographical radio coverage area and with the installation of indoor GPS beacons, this can offer indoor and outdoor mapping capabilities:

  • Illustrate position vehicles or personnel indoor or outdoor
  • Combine with Mandown, Recording Software, Remote Monitoring, Loneworker and Panic Button to further enhance personnel safety and security
  • Obtain historical reports on movement history
  • Locate people in an emergency quickly and effectively
  • View movement in real-time on a variety of mapping overlays
Lone Worker Alert
Many current day roles consist of an employee operating in their work environment alone. Many 2 way radio manufacturers have evolved their radio software so that if the operative has an accident the radio will automatically send an alarm to their Control Room, following a preset period that has timed out with no acknowledgement from the user.
Mandown
If the 2 way radio tilts past its preset threshold, it will activate an alarm back to control or associated fleet of radios.
Private Calling
Your 2 way radio has the ability to conduct a private call with another radio, this maybe a Supervisor or Control Room.
Group Calling
You can use this feature to enter into other operations within your organisation such as the management group. On a larger scale if there is an evacuation required you could press the Panic Button and that would automatically create one large group for what is usually several channels.
Panic Button
This button is usually brightly coloured on the radio for easy access by the user. On being pressed it can alert the control room or fleet of 2 way radios with the radio ID or even the name of the operative in distress.
Remote Monitoring
The controller can take over the user’s 2 way radio remotely. Extremely useful when the controller is aware their colleague may be in danger and feels in necessary to access their microphone.

* Licensed radios operate at high power on dedicated frequencies, providing long-range communications with no cross-channel interference. Non-licensed radios are low power and operate on a generic frequency, making them unsuitable for a ‘secure’ environment, and are prone to interference on your site. SFL Mobile Radio secure all necessary licences on our clients’ behalf.

** ATEX approved radios are intrinsically safe and suitable for use in the Oil and Gas industry and other areas where explosive atmospheres may be encountered.
