SFL’s short-term radio hire provides communication solution for Level 3 School Games

The importance of sport and physical activity for schools in the Liverpool City Region continues to gain greater and greater recognition, with the benefits not only revealing themselves in the sporting arena, but also within student’s wider academic and adult life. Driving this agenda forward are MSP, an organisation dedicated to unlocking the power of sport and physical activity across the whole of the Liverpool City Region.

MSP are entrusted to deliver the Level 3 School Games in the region on behalf of Sport England and the Youth Sport Trust, in conjunction with a network of School Games Organisers. Events of all sizes run throughout the year, but the largest events in the Level 3 School Games calendar is held at Wavertree Sports Park. Here the size of the site means many of the facilities that accommodate the various sporting events can be several minutes’ walk apart. Coupled with the fact that safeguarding and protecting the young people attending is a top priority, ensuring that the right equipment is in place to allow for clear and efficient communication is key. This is where MSP turned to SFL Mobile Radio back in 2014 and ever since SFL have been delighted to supply radios for the event. Having assessed MSP’s requirements SFL deployed 30 Motorola Solutions DP4400’s on a short-term hire basis. The short term two-way radio hire option provided by SFL allowed MSP to use modern digital equipment without the capital outlay associate with purchasing the devices.

Marketing & Events Officer, Holly Budgen, commented:

‘SFL’s radio equipment allows us to communicate across the large site to ensure that the event set up is done correctly and safely. Then, once the event is up and running, they play a vital part in helping us to direct the right support to areas of the event as needed. This could be anything from getting first aiders to where they’re needed, to replenishing water supplies in hot weather, to checking in with our security team, and more.’

The radios also gave the organisers peace of mind, particularly in light of the current affairs at the time of last year’s event with Holly continuing:

‘The radios are also a huge comfort to have on site as we know that if a serious incident were to happen we could react to it in the quickest time-frame possible. This was especially the case for our 2017 event as it came just few weeks after the terrible Manchester Arena bombing, when concerns about threats to large-scale events were heightened.’

Another important factor for MSP is the ease of set-up and use, with very limited time for staff training available, so the solutions provided by SFL ticked all the boxes.

When asked about the experience working with SFL, Holly commented that ‘The SFL team are always very efficient, delivery is on time and they are flexible, even when I have had to change the drop-off location close to the event’.
