A Clear Upgrade for the Lyme Trust

The Lyme Trust provides safe, supported accommodation for people with mild to moderate mental health conditions, helping residents build life skills, regain their independence and avoid homelessness. Based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, the charity’s care and support teams work in an environment that, as Facilities Manager Bill Bromley puts it, “is fluid and can change rapidly.” Reliable communication between staff is essential to keeping everything running smoothly.

The Trust has been a customer of SFL Mobile Radio since early 2023, running a fleet of Motorola DP4400e / DP4401e radios and keeping them in top condition over the years with replacement batteries, antennas and audio accessories as needed. When the time came to bring their hardware up to date, they turned to Jordan at SFL to guide the upgrade, refreshing batteries that were reaching the end of their serviceable life and moving onto the latest Motorola R5 radios.

The R5 has proved an ideal fit. “The new Motorola R5 radios are perfect for our operation,” Bill told us. “Especially with the noise cancelling feature. This makes communicating in noisy areas much easier.” For a busy site where staff need to hear and be heard clearly, that clarity makes a real difference to the working day.

The Trust now runs two models side by side: the DP4400e/DP4401e (since discontinued by Motorola) and its successor, the MOTOTRBO™ R5. Both have impressed. As Bill notes, “Both of which are excellent, but the newer R5 is much better due to the noise cancelling features.”

The service left just as strong an impression as the hardware. “I have always found Jordan to be both polite and friendly,” said Bill. “He is very knowledgeable and responds quickly when contacted. He’s an asset to your team.”
