Keeping Communication Afloat at Blackpool’s Newest Aqua Park
Client Overview
Wild Shore is a brand new water-based adventure hub nestled next to a beautiful lake just outside Blackpool. Offering a variety of outdoor activities such as Wakeboarding, Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP), and Ringo rides. The facility attracts families, friends, and individuals seeking an adrenaline-charged day out, with activities suited for all ages and abilities.
Given the expansive site and the nature of the activities, reliable communication is crucial for ensuring safety, coordinating sessions, and managing emergencies. Wild Shore required a robust communication solution that could cover multiple areas across their facility.
The Challenge
Wild Shore Blackpool had been using a mix of Mitex and Motorola radios, but with staff frequently moving between wet environments and dry areas, there was a need for durable, water-resistant radios that could withstand the rigors of the job. They required radios that could not only survive these conditions but also offer reliable communication across the entire site, including during emergencies.
The Solution
With help from Neil at SFL Mobile Radio, they chose to enhance their communication system with the Mitex General UHF Two-Way Radios. These radios offered a powerful 5-watt output, ensuring extensive coverage and clear communication across the site. The pre-programmed radios were ready to use straight out of the box, which was a significant advantage for the team.
The Mitex radios provided up to 10 times more range than standard PMR446 radios, with a city range of up to 10km and a countryside range of up to 25km. This was ideal for Wild Shore’s needs, allowing staff to communicate effectively, whether on land or water.
Customer Experience
Allison, Operational Manager at Wild Shore Blackpool shared that their main day-to-day requirements for the radios included the ability to communicate across multiple areas and activities, such as relaying session numbers, important information, and responding to injuries or emergencies.
Allison also noted that while they already had a handful of Mitex radios on-site, they chose to upgrade because of the need for water-resistant radios for their activities and boats. The team at Wild Shore had previously used Motorola radios at their sister site, Foxlake Adventures, and appreciated their size and durability, which made them ideal for use in wet environments.
“Our staff wear them in wet bags and swim back and forwards to the Aqua Park with them, so we needed something a bit hardier.”
For day-to-day use, the radios have proven to be highly effective, with batteries lasting a full operational day of around 10 hours. This has been particularly helpful for the staff, ensuring that communication remains uninterrupted throughout their busy schedule.
Allison described the buying experience with SFL Mobile Radio as “really positive,” highlighting the helpfulness of Neil in sorting out the invoice and programming the new radios to match their existing frequencies.
When asked to rank the product, Wild Shore Blackpool gave the Mitex General Radios a solid 5/5.
Conclusion
The implementation of Mitex General UHF Two-Way Radios has significantly enhanced communication at Wild Shore Blackpool, ensuring staff can stay connected and respond quickly in a fast-paced, water-based environment. The durability and reliability of the radios have made them an invaluable tool for maintaining safety and efficiency across the site.
