Manchester Pride, an annual festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, recently hosted ‘Youth Pride’ during the vibrant Manchester Pride weekend.

This gathering provided a welcoming space for young people, their families, and friends to take part in the Pride march. They indulged in an array of diverse activities at The Proud Place a purpose-built LGBTQ+ centre nestled in the heart of Manchester.

Ensuring smooth and secure communication was essential for the success of this event. It was crucial to establish reliable means of communication to facilitate coordination and safety.

The core requirements established for the radios

To ensure the event’s seamless flow, Manchester Pride identified three main areas where radio communication was indispensable:

• Effective communication was vital to keep participants together and ensure their safety during the Pride march.

• Radios were used to maintain contact with the team responsible for the safe transportation of young attendees to and from The Proud Place via a walking bus.

• Given the multi-floored layout of The Proud Place, radios played a pivotal role in connecting different teams and staff members located on various floors.

The decision to utilise Motorola Radios proved to be active in the success of Youth Pride.

When asked how they found the radios, Lewis – one of the organisers, stated:
