Acres of Coverage at Cannon Hall Farm
Cannon Hall Farm isn’t your average farm. The Nicholson family’s award-winning attraction near Barnsley welcomes around 220,000 visitors a year, has starred on Channel 5’s This Week on the Farm, and runs one of the best farm shops in the UK. With hundreds of animals, multiple restaurants, play areas, and a site that sprawls across the Pennine foothills, keeping staff connected across every corner of the operation is no small task.
Their existing radios weren’t up to it. Coverage across the site was patchy, leaving departments out of contact when they needed each other most.
Shane Williams, Head of Sales and Operations at Cannon Hall Farm reached out to Neil Evans, our Sales Manager for the North who recommended a solution built around the Kirisun DP405 UHF Portable Radio. 30 units were supplied alongside 30 compatible earpieces and five multi-unit chargers — enough to keep every radio topped up and every team member equipped.
On top of that, SFL took care of the Ofcom site licence, covering the team for the next five years so there was nothing left to organise.
Ordered on 9th February and on-site by the 12th, the turnaround was as straightforward as the result. Shane’s verdict? “Brilliant so far” — and four out of five stars to match.
Why Choose the Kirisun DP405?
The DP405 is well suited to a site like Cannon Hall Farm. With 256 channels divided across 16 zones, different departments can communicate on their own channel without interference from the rest of the team — ideal for a site juggling farm operations, retail, hospitality, and visitor services all at once.
The 1W high-power loudspeaker, combined with advanced digital voice encoding, delivers loud and clear audio even in noisy environments — useful when you’re competing with animals, machinery, and a few hundred visitors.
Battery life runs to 15–18 hours under normal conditions, meaning radios comfortably outlast a full working day without needing a mid-shift charge.
The ergonomic design keeps all controls accessible even when wearing gloves — a practical consideration for a working farm in all weathers.
