Team SFL Mobile Radio raise over £1,200 for Macmillan Cancer Support taking on the Longest Day Challenge!

Last Friday Karl, Neil and Laurence took on a mighty challenge in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. The ‘Longest Day’ challenge consisting of 72 holes of Golf; the equivalent of 4 rounds, in a single day, racking up over 20 miles in the process.

With the weather on our side we turned up bright and early arriving at Bidston Golf Club for 5:30 am ready for our 6am tee off. Full of adrenaline and enthusiasm we flew round the first 18 in just over 3 hours, enjoying the slightly cooler weather before the sun fully appeared. It was great spotting the Sure Business Systems 9th hole sponsorship on the way round and we subsequently posed for a quick photo next to it each round looking noticeably more tired as the day went on!

Opting not to rest after the first round and go straight back out, the golf course had started to fill up a bit and it took us slightly longer getting back in for around 12:45. By this point the midday sun was in full swing and we were relieved to sit down for the first time all day. A quick lunch of sausage, egg and chips helped restore our energy levels and set us up for the second half to come.

Each round we were joined by a friend which helped to keep us motivated (and competitive) and when our friend turned up for the third we were off again at 13:30. This round was probably the toughest, fatigue was starting to set in and in the back of our minds we still knew there was one more round to go. At one point Karl even managed to take a tumble which we were quick to photograph before helping him up. It was a massive boost however to see the donations and messages of support coming in during the day helping to remind us why we were doing the challenge and we powered on.

Just before 5 we were back in and after a quick pit-stop ready to go again for the final round. Physically and mentally exhausted at this point but our adrenaline levels started to kick back in as we counted down the last 18. The last hole came and went and as we walked into the club house at around 9pm we were greeted by a round of applause and a well deserved pint kindly bought by the club captain.

To date we have raised over £1,200 with more expected to trickle in over the coming week which is a fantastic achievement. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated and supported us so far as well as to our friends who joined us for a round to keep us going!
