Triumph for Tonbridge School as they Upgrade Communications
Tonbridge is a renowned public school in Kent, part of the Eton Group, founded in 1553 by Sir Andrew Judde. The school is steeped in history and tradition, and currently educates around 800 boys aged between 13 and 18.
The Challenges
Upon his arrival at the School, the Safety and Security Manager recognised the limitations of the existing unlicensed radios, which had a limited range and often failed to cover the large school site adequately. This prompted the need for a more robust communication solution to ensure seamless connectivity for various departments, including Security, Sports Centre, Grounds, Estates, Gardens, and Events.
The Solution
To address these needs, Tonbridge School upgraded to Motorola DP1400 Digital Non-display radios with multichargers provided by SFL Mobile Radio. The new radios offered enhanced range and reception, significantly improving communication capabilities across the campus. Each department was allocated a dedicated channel to streamline operations and maintain efficient communication.
Implementation
The radios were distributed to the Porters for security and day-to-day taskings on Channel 1, while separate channels were designated for the Sports Centre, Grounds, Estates, Gardens, and Events departments. This setup ensured that each department could communicate effectively without interference.
Results
The upgrade to licensed radios has proven to be a substantial improvement over the previous unlicensed models. Staff members have found the new radios to be highly effective in their daily tasks, enjoying better range and clearer reception. The dedicated channels for each department have streamlined operations and enhanced overall efficiency.
